The short version: capacity building budgets have been reset since 1 October 2026 as plans are reassessed or renewed, and from 1 February 2027 unspent money won't carry over. If your plan has capacity building in it, now is a good time to use it on something you can show results from.
What has changed, and what's next
Since 1 October 2026, budgets for capacity building daily activities, and for social, economic and community participation, have been reset as plans are reassessed or renewed. The Government's factsheet says this reduces the amount available in plans by 10% for improved daily living skills supports (capacity building daily activities) and by 50% for social, economic and community participation supports.
From 1 February 2027, plans are renewed rather than continued, and unspent funds no longer roll over.
What the NDIA will ask you
Your my NDIS contact (the NDIA person who manages your plan) checks in 2 to 3 months before your plan reassessment. They'll ask how you're tracking against your goals and whether anything has changed.
Where to find capacity building in your plan
Look for Capacity Building. Impact6's life-stage programs use Improved Daily Living. WORK uses Finding and Keeping a Job. If your plan is self-managed or plan-managed, you can choose any provider. If it's NDIA-managed, you need a registered provider for that support.
